Hong Kong: Tin Kau Bridge and approach viaducts

The Tin Kau Bridge and approach spans will link the Tai Lam Viaduct Tunnel and Tsing Yi sections of Route 3 and forms the connection with the Lantau Fixed Crossing leading to the new airport at Chep Lap Kok.

The overall length of the Tin Kau Bridge and Approach Viaduct will be 1,775 metres.

The project is divided into two major sections: the cable stayed section and the approach structures.

DSI Far East was awarded the contract for supply and installation of the post-tensioning in the approach structure.

The approach structure consists of Ramp H and Ramp G and the access viaducts. Ramp H and Ramp G are constructed in situ by the cantilever method, the access viaducts are partially constructed on falsework and by the cantilever method.

PT quantities are approx. 1,000 tonnes of prestressing steel 0.62" with tendon sizes 12x0.62", 15x0.62" and 27x0.62" and with the access viaducts being supplied with 27x0.62" couplers.

Start of works for approach spans: November 1995, completion December 1996.
