Deep excavation retaining wall supported by double corrosion protected anchors

The 20 m tall retaining wall of the excavation for a new stadium in Hong Kong is supported by 100 double corrosion protected DYWIDAG Multistrand Anchors

In order to stabilize the excavation for a new stadium and the adjacent, existing soccer field of a top professional team in Hong Kong, DSI supplied and installed 100 double corrosion protected DYWIDAG Multistrand Anchors. The owner demanded a minimum service life of 24 months for the retaining walls temporary anchors. The completed multistrand anchors consisted of 9-0.62" diameter strands 25 m long.

In order to continuously monitor the anchor performance during the entire service life, load cells with a capacity of 2,000 kN were fixed to five anchors so any drop in load due to creep can be detected. Within the scope of the technical supervision, DSI Hong Kong carried out load tests on an additional 10 anchors by conducting lift-off tests in regular time intervals.
